The 1960’s are calling Jena, they want their racism back
In case you haven’t been following the national news, infy will catch you up. Last year at Jena High, a black kid jokingly asked to sit under the “white tree.” Getting permission he and 2 friends sat under the shade tree implicitly reserved for whites. The next day, 3 hangman’s nooses were found hanging from the tree. 3 white kids were caught, and were suspended against the principal’s recommendations for expulsion.
In the weeks that followed, black kids tried to talk to someone about the incendiary nature of the “prank,” but were stonewalled. One district attorney told them if the didn’t shut up over this “innocent prank” he could “end their lives with a pen.” The culminating event happened 3 weeks later when a white kid got slapped up for bragging about a black kid getting slapped up earlier. He was knocked down, and in the words of Smokey: He got knocked the Fuck Out!
He was taken to the hospital and discharged 2 hours later, with brusies and a headache. He suffered no broken bones or substantial injuries. 6 black kids were arrested. Charges of ATTEMPTED MURDER were brought, and then later reduced after national squawking. One of the 6 was tried as an adult. For adult prison. At 16.
Today thousands marched on Jena, shutting the town down. They came from all over America in buses, presenting the DA with 45,000 signatures to drop the charges.
