infy REVIEWS: American Gangster
the film tells the story of Frank Lucas, a black guy who had the mafia working for him in the heroin trade in vietnam-era NYC. engineering the “cadaver connection,” frank smuggled dope out of vietnam in the coffins of dead soldiers. the man was a gangster.
ridley’s film is grade A entertainment. he’s not breaking any molds but he is reminding us what a competently crafted period crime piece can be. this film is a solid addition to the crime-biopic genre following such films as Blow, Goodfellas, and Scarface.

American Gangster is directed by Ridley Scott, written by Steven Zaillian, produced by Brian Grazer and stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Wide release November 2nd.
